Mark Tattersall, Bsc, FCMA - Group Chair
Mark is a qualified accountant with over 30 years post qualification experience and has operated as a senior executive in a range of organisations within both the private and public sectors. He has been responsible for strategy formulation and significant change management initiatives within the various organizations in which he has worked. For example, as Finance Director of London Scottish Bank plc (LSB) he led the Group’s acquisition strategy and integrated a number of new businesses into the organisation. Furthermore, as Managing Director of Lending at LSB he led on strategy formulation for the Group’s lending units, insurance activities and broking operations.
In his senior management roles, Mark has managed significant teams including senior staff within Finance, IT, Treasury and Risk and Compliance as well as Managing Directors’, Operations Directors’ and Sales and Marketing Directors’.
Mark was a PLC director for 9 years and has held a number of other Director roles-Non-Executive and Executive-within private companies and public sector organisations. He became Group Chair of Your Housing Group in September 2016 and currently has two non-Executive Director roles - at the North West Ambulance Service where he chairs the Audit Committee and at MHM Ltd where he chairs the Board.
A Chartered Surveyor with over 25 years’ experience in the property and construction industry specialising in project management, property development and asset management.
Roy Grant joined the Group Board on 1st August 2015.
Prior to 2013 Roy worked as HR Director in a number of sectors including banking, health, and manufacturing and most recently in media for Trinity Mirror plc.
Since 2013 Roy has worked as an HR consultant as well as holding a Non-Executive role for RCNi, a publishing subsidiary of the Royal College of Nursing. He is also a trustee of Career Connect based in Liverpool.
His experience includes all aspects of human resources with an emphasis on merger and acquisition and employee relations.
Roy is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.
Kathy joined Your Housing Group in 2013 and has 38 years public sector experience across central government and NHS providers and commissioners. For 11 years until 2013, Kathy worked in primary care and as cluster primary care trust executive (covering four former PCTs). She is a former member of the National Institute of Health Research Advisory Board and is currently an advisor to NHS Employers, where she is a member of the negotiating team for GP pay. Kathy is a non-executive director of Greater Manchester West Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust. Kathy is also a trustee and chair of The Reader Organisation, a Liverpool-based charity.
Paul Carhart is Group Director of Customer Services at housing group ForViva and Managing Director of Villages Housing Association. Paul ensures the support is in place for the Board to effectively manage ForViva and for the Group’s operational teams to deliver excellent services for customers through intelligence-based strategies.
With 20 years’ experience in social housing including key roles in Local Authorities, ALMOs and housing associations, Paul has worked across the north of England and has experience of delivering major projects in neighbourhood development, corporate governance, customer involvement and service improvement.
Paul is passionate about equality and diversity and improving services for all users and customers, ensuring ForViva performs strongly and meets its legal and regulatory requirements.
Paul enjoys spending time with his family and is involved in a wide range of activities such as sports, camping, travel and community activities. He is a keen athlete and enjoys running, swimming and walking. As a follower of Chester Football Club, Paul enjoys more sporting lows than highs.
Alistair is an experienced executive with a wealth of expertise in social care. He provides the board with valuable front line guidance and knowledge in areas such as elderly care and learning disabilities. He has held senior positions in Bupa, Four Seasons Health Care, Eden Futures and is currently Chief Operating Officer for Akari Care which provides care for elderly people.
He is also the Managing Director of White Rose Capital, which undertakes Consulting and Interim Management, advising a number of senior teams and working within the private equity and corporate restructuring space.
Prior to this he held a number of roles in marketing, business development and strategy for Thomson Reuters, Boots, Halfords, KPMG, Kodak and ICI.
Alistair lives in North Yorkshire with his teenage family and enjoys hill walking (having climbed Kilimanjaro in 2010), golf, cycling, and is a Cub Leader.
Val is an independent healthcare specialist working with primary and community healthcare organisations providing strategic development, executive coaching and change management programmes. Val has worked for 34 years within the NHS in a range of organisations including mental health, large and small hospitals and primary and community healthcare with 14 years’ experience of working at Board level in both operational and strategic positions. Val’s passion remains health promotion and disease prevention.
Val undertakes a number of voluntary roles she is a Board member of Sustrans the national cycling Charity and co-chairs the Greater Manchester Public Health Alliance transport and health sub group
Brenda Smith, BA, MBA, ACA, FRSA, Doctor of Letters
A chartered accountant and a media business executive with experience in a FTSE 100 company at Executive Board level.
Brenda worked as President EMEA for Ascent Media Group, a subsidiary of Liberty Media U.S.
A previous role includes Deputy Chairman and Managing Director of Granada Television and ITV Studios and has served in a number of NED roles in the private and public sectors. Brenda is currently a member of the Investment Advisory Panel for North West Business Finance, a Governor of Manchester Metropolitan University and a member of the Advisory Boards for Manchester Business School and the Centre for Islamic Finance at the University of Bolton.
She continues to work as an advisor in the digital and media sector.
Phil is an experienced Board Director with a Senior Executive / CEO career spanning private, public and not-for-profit companies in the Energy, Utilities, Healthcare, Social Care and Criminal Justice sectors.
He has strong strategic and leadership skills during periods of growth, change or financial recovery. He is currently a Non-Executive Director of Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust.
