Today, Friday 27 February, more than 100 Chinese-speaking residents from our older people’s schemes across Manchester came together for Your Housing Group’s annual Chinese New Year celebration, held to welcome the Year of the Horse.
The event opened with a warm introduction from hosts Echo Li and Russ Nixon, before Richard Jones, Director of Asset and Growth, shared updates on Your Housing Group’s current projects and our continued investment in the Manchester region.
Residents enjoyed a vibrant programme of cultural performances, reflecting the rich heritage of the communities we support. Highlights included:
-
A heartfelt choral performance of Friendship Glows by the Chinese Elderly Choir
-
A traditional Tai Chi Fan dance
-
A vocal performance of Love One Another
-
A rare and captivating Single-String solo – an ancient Chinese musical tradition dating back over 3,000 years
-
A graceful Chinese dance, Light Rain in Early Spring, performed by Taiwanese artist Miss Lu
The celebration also featured a visit from Choi San, the Chinese god of wealth, followed by a lively raffle with prizes for residents to enjoy.
The afternoon concluded with a Chinese banquet, offering an opportunity for residents to spend time together, share memories and enjoy authentic dishes.
We’d like to say a thank you to all colleagues and community partners who helped bring this event to life. Moments like these play a vital role in helping our residents stay connected, celebrate their heritage and feel supported as part of our wider community.
Wishing all our residents and communities a prosperous and joyful Year of the Horse.
