Today, Thursday, 5 February 2026, people across the UK will come together for Time to Talk Day – the nation’s biggest mental health conversation.

The day was created by Time to Change (a partnership between Mind and Rethink Mental Illness), and since its launch in 2014, it has grown into a national movement encouraging everyone – families, colleagues, communities – to talk openly about mental health and break the stigma that still surrounds it.

So, why does it matter? Because talking changes lives.

Yet, research shows that many of us still hesitate to start these conversations. We’re worried about saying the wrong thing or making someone uncomfortable, but even a small chat can make a big difference. It can help someone feel less alone, build understanding, and create a culture where mental health is part of everyday life.

It’s about finding everyday moments to talk. Whether it’s sharing a brew with a colleague, texting a friend, or chatting with a neighbour on a walk, these simple acts can open the door to meaningful conversations. You don’t need to be an expert, just listen, be kind, and show you care.

Want to get involved, but don’t know how? Here’s some things you can do:

·       Reach out: Send a message, invite someone for a cuppa, or take a walk together

·       Ask the question: “How are you?”, and really listen to the answer

·       Share the message: Use #TimeToTalk on social media to spread the word and inspire others.

Let’s make Time to Talk Day 2026 a day of connection and compassion. Together, we can turn awareness into action and help change lives, one conversation at a time.
