We're so pleased to have completed on our latest development bringing 43 affordable homes to Stoke-on-Trent.
Kiln Nook, our £9.4 million affordable housing development in the heart of Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent.
Located on Woodbank Street, Kiln Nook provides a range of affordable housing options, including 25 homes for affordable rent, 13 Rent to Buy properties, and 5 shared ownership homes. This development forms part of our commitment to creating vibrant communities and increasing access to affordable housing across the region.
The development has not only brought new affordable homes to the area but also significant community benefits, such as refurbishment works to a nearby church memorial, donations to the local food bank, and opportunities for apprenticeships during construction. The historic Grade II listed bottle kilns, known as the ‘Three Sisters,’ have been carefully restored as part of the project, preserving an important piece of Stoke-on-Trent’s pottery heritage.
Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rachel Reeves, visited the site prior to the spending review earlier this year to announce a £2 billion investment into the government's plan to build 1.5 million new homes.
The project was delivered in partnership with MCI Developments Limited, part of the Keepmoat Group, and supported by funding from Homes England, alongside contributions from the Stoke-on-Trent Housing Infrastructure Fund.
Lorraine Donnelly, our Executive Director of Development & Asset, said “Kiln Nook is a fantastic example of how we’re investing in communities and providing homes that meet a range of needs. This development not only offers modern, affordable housing but also celebrates the heritage of the area through the restoration of the iconic ‘Three Sisters’ kilns. We’re proud to play a part in preserving local history while delivering much-needed homes for families and first-time buyers.”
Kate Collins, Head of Affordable Housing Delivery at Homes England, said "Kiln Nook is an excellent example of how we work together with organisations like Your Housing through the Shared Ownership and Affordable Homes Programme to deliver safe, affordable, and much-needed homes. The development not only creates vibrant, mixed-tenure communities that people are proud to call home, but also celebrates local heritage, with the restoration of the iconic ‘Three Sister’ kilns serving as a fantastic example of preserving history while building for the future.”
Craig Murphy, Regional Managing Director at MCI Developments said “MCI are delighted to have been involved in this scheme with its long-term partner YHG. The former derelict brown field site which was technically challenging due to the need for land remediation, and large retaining structures, has been transformed into a thriving new community. This site is great example of collaborative working and overcoming problems together to deliver the much-needed affordable homes the nation needs.”
