Creating safe and supportive communities for our residents and colleagues is at the heart of everything we do.

Part of that means making sure our teams understand the signs of domestic abuse and feel confident in offering support when it’s needed.

Today (Thursday 25 September 2025) our Safeguarding colleagues recently hosted their first Domestic Abuse Action Day, bringing colleagues together to learn, share experiences and explore how we can better support residents and each other.

Many colleagues who joined the session work directly with our residents and so they shared real examples of how across their areas of work, they've supported our residents who've experienced domestic abuse to ensure they feel safe and supported. One colleague shared how she felt something just wasn't right with a resident she worked closely with and so, she used professional curiosity to support the resident further, that resident later told them “You saved my life”.

Since April 2025, we’ve supported 197 residents who have experienced domestic abuse. Sadly, this reflects a wider issue across the UK, where 1 in 5 adults have experienced domestic abuse at some point in their lives. It’s a reality that affects people of all ages, backgrounds and communities, and it's something we’re committed to tackling.
