We’re excited to share that we have now taken formal handover of our brand‑new foyer, Lock 20 in Wigan, marking the completion of construction and a huge milestone for everyone involved.
Construction began back in August 2024, creating a purpose‑built, three‑storey complex that will soon give many young people a safe, stable place to call home. Lock 20 has been delivered with the support of Homes England, Wigan Council, and the Brownfield Housing Fund, with construction led by Hargreaves Contracting.
Now that the building has been officially handed over, we’re moving through the last steps which include, IT installation, furnishing, and operational setup, to make sure both the space and our colleagues are ready to welcome our younger residents from day one.
Our new foyer has been purposefully designed to support young people who have experienced instability or are at risk of homelessness. With modern, comfortable spaces throughout, it provides an environment that helps residents build confidence, independence and a sense of community. We’re proud to be opening a bigger, purpose‑built foyer to replace Coops Foyer, joining our existing three foyers, which you can read more about here.
The new foyer includes:
-
High‑spec, self‑contained apartments
-
A residents’ lounge and breakout spaces
-
A multi-functional gym
-
A training kitchen
-
Meeting rooms and interview spaces
-
A dedicated YHG colleague hub for on‑site support
It also has modern, energy‑efficient features, including mechanical ventilation with heat recovery and a 23kW solar PV installation.
Jacque Allen, our CEO said “The handover of Lock 20 Foyer is a hugely important moment, not just for Your Housing Group but for the many young people who will come to live here in the years ahead. This isn’t just a building, it’s a place where young people can feel safe, supported and believed in, with the space and stability to build the future they want. We’re incredibly proud to be delivering such a high-quality development with our partners.”
Kate Collins, Head of Affordable Housing Delivery at Homes England, said “As the Government’s housing and regeneration agency, one of our key objectives is to increase the supply of high-quality, affordable homes.
