Rynet Court Fire Update - 06.06.2025

Following our update on Tuesday 3 June, following the devastating fire at Rynet Court in Warrington, we wanted to provide you with a further update.

Following conversations with our partners, we know that the fire alarm system detected a fire and alerted the authorities. This also triggered other safety measures which significantly reducing the volume of smoke getting into people’s flats. The building performed as it should in the event of a fire, and we're still so incredibly grateful that everyone was safely evacuated and that no serious injuries occurred.

Our teams have been working around the clock to make sure that all 65 residents have suitable temporary accommodation, access to food and everyday items, and a range of support until they can safely return to their home.

Several hotels have been booked whilst we work with each individual to find more appropriate accommodation for them while the work to repair Rynet Court gets underway.

We’re also working with Warrington Borough Council and other partners to signpost residents to support services. This includes help to access wellbeing, banking, early years support and other services. Each of our residents will have a dedicated Customer Liaison Officer to support them and provide them with regular updates on what is happening and when. Several YHG colleagues also met with all the residents this afternoon to discuss next steps and answer some of their concerns.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated, although the police have made an arrest. We have been working closely with the police and the fire service to support them with their ongoing investigations. It is too early to say how long it will be before residents can return home safely; however, our teams are working to understand the extent of the fire damage and what remediation will be needed.

I would like to take this opportunity to extend our sincere gratitude to everybody who has helped and supported those impacted; the fire service and police, the residents themselves, the wider community, volunteers, our local partners including Warrington Borough Council, and our colleagues. People and community are at the very heart of Your Housing Group and the strength of community we’ve observed this week has been truly heartwarming.
