At Your Housing Group (YHG), we believe everyone should feel welcome and respected, whether you're a resident, colleague or community member. Our Inclusion Strategy sets out how we’ll create a culture where everyone feels they belong, and where our services reflect the diverse needs of our people.
We live and work in diverse communities. Inclusion means recognising and valuing those differences - whether it’s background, identity, experience or view.
Our Inclusion strategy is important:
-
To make sure everyone can access our services and feel safe doing so
-
To create a workplace where people feel respected and heard
-
To improve decision-making, innovation and performance by embracing diverse views
-
To meet our legal responsibilities.
We’ve already taken steps to build a more inclusive organisation, and this strategy builds on that work.
So far, we’ve:
-
Embedded inclusive values through The YHG Way
-
Created frameworks to support inclusive service delivery
-
Engaged with residents and colleagues to understand barriers
-
Started using data to identify gaps and improve access.
We want YHG to be a place where everyone feels they belong and can contribute fully.
By the end of the FY28, we aim to:
-
Remove barriers to accessing services or participating in decision-making
-
Increase representation of underrepresented groups in our workforce and customer engagement
-
Build a culture that values diversity and inclusion in everything we do.
We’re taking practical steps to embed inclusion across YHG, for both colleagues and residents.
Our next steps include:
-
Promoting inclusive messaging and behaviours through internal comms and training
-
Supporting colleagues and residents to grow and contribute through accessible learning and development
-
Listening to diverse voices and designing services that reflect real needs
-
Creating safe spaces for open conversations
-
Reviewing policies, systems and processes to make sure they’re fair and inclusive
-
Using data to track progress and tailor services
-
Celebrating success stories and sharing what we learn.
We’ll know we’re making progress when inclusion is part of everyday life at YHG and when our services work for everyone.
We’re aiming for:
-
A workforce that reflects the communities we serve
-
Customer engagement that includes a wide range of voices
-
Positive feedback from colleagues and residents
-
Services that are accessible, fair and responsive.
We know there are barriers, and we’re working to remove them by:
-
Making sure we can collect and use diversity data effectively
-
Ensuring we can reach and support all groups, including those with language or accessibility needs
-
Embedding inclusive behaviours across the organisation.
Inclusion isn’t just the right thing to do, it helps us build a stronger organisation by:
-
Accessing a wider talent pool and helping colleagues grow
-
Designing services that meet real needs
-
Improving innovation, productivity and decision-making.
Inclusion is about making sure everyone feels seen, heard and valued. This strategy is our commitment to building a caring, fairer, and reliable YHG, where diverse voices shape better services, and everyone has the chance to thrive.
