As your landlord, we cover the buildings insurance for your home, but you are responsible, under the terms of your tenancy, for insuring your contents. It is always a good idea to shop around for a policy that will give you the cover you need.
Although home contents insurance isn’t compulsory, it’s designed to help protect your possessions should the worst happen.
Home contents insurance can help protect your personal belongings from incidents such as fire, theft, water damage, and many more household risks, giving you peace of mind.
It’s a good idea to shop around to find the best policy for you, and it’s up to you who you choose based on your own personal needs; however, we’ve teamed up with Thistle Tenant Risks, a company who provide the “My Home” contents insurance especially for tenants, and anyone living in social or affordable housing are eligible to apply.
My Home policy provides cover for contents such as: furniture, carpets, curtains, clothes, bedding, electrical items, pictures, and ornaments.
-
There’s no excess (meaning you don’t pay the first part of a claim).
-
It covers loss or damage caused by events such as, theft, water damage, fire, and other household risks.
-
It includes Tenant's Liability, which means that up to 35% of the contents of your landlord’s fixtures and fittings (which you’re responsible for as a tenant) is insured.
-
It covers theft or attempted theft of contents in sheds, outbuildings, and garages that are part of your home (up to £3,000).
-
It covers damage to external glazing (which you’re responsible for).
-
We’ll cover up to £500 for replacement and installation of locks for outside doors, windows, or alarms if keys are lost or stolen.
-
You don’t need to have special door or window locks (as long as your outside door locks, that’s fine).
The My Home contents insurance scheme is specifically for residents in social housing, and is designed to meet the demands and needs of social housing residents looking for home contents insurance.
The cover is subject to terms, conditions, limitations, and exclusions apply, which can be viewed in the My Home Contents Insurance Product Information and Policy Wording.
