Fly-tipping is the illegal dumping of rubbish or waste. This includes items like cardboard, mattresses, furniture, carpets, and bags of rubbish. We take fly-tipping incidents very seriously at Your Housing Group (YHG).

We know it can sometimes be hard to tell whether something has been dumped or is simply waiting to be collected. If you spot rubbish in your area, it’s worth having a quick chat with your neighbours first, it might belong to them and they may already have arranged a pick‑up.

If not, please don’t try to move it yourself. Instead, report it to us with as much detail as you can (including dates, times and photos). We’ll look into it and if on YHG land, we will take action if needed.

If you've spotted fly-tipping, there are several options you can take to report it:

  • Report it via your Council here

For YHG land only:

  • Call us on 0345 345 0272
  • Complete our online form below.

Any rubbish that could pose a health and safety hazard in communal areas will be removed within one working day.

If the rubbish is not a health and safety hazard, we will remove it within 21 days. We will investigate any incidents of persistent fly-tipping to determine whether it's illegal and, if possible take appropriate enforcement action against identified perpetrators.

Our Customer Scrutiny Panel (CSP) have recently reviewed our approach to tackling fly-tipping and how we can make improvements. Read more here.

Dumped shopping trolleys

Shopping trolleys that have been left in streets, car parks or green spaces aren’t technically fly‑tipping, but they do create clutter and can block access.

To get them collected quickly:

  • Contact the supermarket directly, most have systems to recover abandoned trolleys
  • Some areas also use apps like TrolleyWise to report them easily
  • If the trolley is in a communal area we manage, or it’s causing a safety issue, please report it to us and we’ll organise the right team to remove it.

Fly‑tipping on YHG land only

Report fly-tipping to us

Tell us exactly where the waste is - a postcode, street name, landmark, WhatThreeWords or description helps us find it.
This helps us understand how recent the incident is.
Please be as specific as possible (e.g. household furniture – sofa).
By uploading photos, this can help us understand what needs to be done.
