Manchester Pride is one of the UK’s leading LGBTQ+ charities whose vision is “a world where LGBTQ+ people are free to live and love without prejudice”.
The famous parade saw the city traffic halt as thousands of LGBTQ+ people and their allies took to the streets to march together for equality, and we are so proud to have been represented this year as a member of HouseProud – a network group set up in 2014 for LGBTQ+ people working in social housing.
Some of our colleagues were there to fly the rainbow flag on behalf of #TeamYHG - and a fantastic time was had by all!
Steven, one of our Income Officers here at YHG said, “The weekend may have been terrible for weather, but the rain actually managed to hold off while we joined the parade.
“I’ve been a part of the parade for a fair few years now, and the atmosphere, you just can’t describe in words. A lot of emotions run through you – the crowds cheering you on, and the kids wanting to high five you.
“It’s that couple of hours where you feel the world is such a better place with acceptance and just be yourself without judgement.
I was proud to attend to represent #TeamYHG and thought we really contributed our own voice.”
Kat, our Technical Solutions Architect, added, “It was wonderful to be able to be part of the parade. My favourite bit is seeing the love and happiness on the crowds’ faces as people parade by.
“This year my wife and I dressed as Barbie and Ken (hopefully obviously?!) as they are a very Queerly Beloved couple. By the end of the parade my arm hurt from waving, and I’d nearly lost my voice from shouting “Hi Barbie” back at people who were so overjoyed to see us!”
“A world where LGBTQ+ people are free to live and love without prejudice” is everything we stand for, and we commit to continue to stand for the rights of everyone to love freely and to be able to be exactly who they are.
